Ok. So lets get started as all the good stories have to start, lets do this, and as the japanesse would say... Ganbatte!
Once upon a time... there was this Galician girl, who had always lived in the same town, one day, bored of always watching the same old faces and listen to the same old stories, she decided to start working on her owns. So, she picked up a flight, and left, these are some of her reflexions.
First, one thing you'd know about going to live to another country is that, even if it sounds great, and it is great, moreover on the impact it has in you as a person, and in your thinking and open-mindedness, there're always gonna be some strugglings, and those are the ones I want to talk about, I know... I know... such an emo topic to start writing here, girl, we want to know awesome stories, the funny kind! Yeah, yeah... I know, but listen, because this is important.
Before leaving, some advices, not the general common sense ones, but common sense cultural and language related ones. And it might seem obvious, but you wouldn't believe how many times I've discovered common sense is the most uncommon one: LEARN THE LANGUAGE OF THE PLACE YOU'RE GOING TO LIVE. This is important, I don't know how you manage, how you deal, but in my case, I am talkative, I love talking, and I'm not saying I love to say things, but talk, have meaninful conversations with people. Language barriers Suck for me, and they drain out most of my energy. Therefore, if you can learn some basics: Hi, bye, thanks, you're welcome, the verb to be/to have, you'd have done most of the work, then you could communicate your basic needs and thoughts, instead of having them pumping around from one side to the other of your brain.
Second, study the culture and a little bit of the history of the country, it will be really useful for not steping out when you don't want to, or have stereotypes and expectations that aren't gonna happen, so you'll do yourself a favour, and save the work of having to change All of them. Be informed, always helpful, then you'll contrast this information with reality, but's always easier than starting from scratch.
Third, be patient. PATIENT. You'll need TONS of patience to survive, remember you're in a new country, this means you have to start from the beggining where people has already a life that's going on. You'll find nice people, funny people, some smart ones... but not everybody is going to want to be your friend, not what you'll understand for friend if you contrast it with your long-life friends. So, sometimes it'll be normal that you'll feel some isolation, therefore, it'll be good you find your own ways to entertain, or prevent this by searching for strategies to fight this feeling.
And this are my thoughts right now, kinda emo-s...hoot. But it's ok, you'll have days like this too, you'll have to learn to embrace them, and let them go.
Pleasure talking to you and sharing a bit.
See ya soon!
